As a Stylist I see a lot of pregnant women and women who have had children. And their #1 concern is hair loss or thinning hair. I try to ease the concerns but, I can still see in the new mothers eyes that she is a little freaked out about all the hair she sees that she is shedding . So , I am going to share a little medical post baby hair issues that no one seems to talk about.
But please know this: This is a temporary phase. In the normal cycle of hair growth, some hair is lost every day. But during pregnancy the increased levels of estrogen in your body freezes hair in the growing (or “resting”) phase of the cycle. ... Postpartum hair loss commonly starts at around three months after birth. So , with that said imagine 9 months of not shedding 1 hair strand, and after 3 months of being sleep deprived missing the prenatal vitamins and you are finally out of the honey moon baby stage you take a shower and handfuls of hair fall out .. So yes this is a normal phase of the hair cycle .. my recommendations would be to use a good shampoo and conditioner get a good haircut and stay on the prenatal vitamins or a multi vitamin for at least 9 months after birth of the baby .. you will be tired and drained so, it wont hurt to stay hydrated and take a vitamin ... just my opinion.. xoxoxoxx SB
